Is the Law Abolished?

One of the greatest lies of religion is that the Law of YAHUWAH, His Torah, has been abolished. Yet from Genesis to Revelation, Scripture declares that His commandments are eternal, righteous, and good.

“The Torah of YAHUWAH is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of YAHUWAH is sure, making wise the simple.”Psalm 19:7

The Law is not a burden, it is covenant, light, and life. Yeshua did not come to destroy it; He came to fulfil it, to reveal its spiritual depth and empower us to walk in it through the Ruah ha Qodesh (Set-Apart Spirit).

1. The Law Is Eternal — The Covenant of Light
“Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your Torah is truth.” Psalm 119:142

The Torah (Law) is eternal because it flows from the eternal nature of YAHUWAH Himself. It is not a temporary list of rules but a covenant of life given to guide Israel in holiness.

The Proverbs say:

“The commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” Proverbs 6:23

To reject the Law is to reject the light that shows the way. The one who walks without it walks in darkness.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keeps the Torah, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18

The Law is covenant, a marriage agreement between YAHUWAH and His people. It reveals His standards, His love, and His order.

2. The Messiah Did Not Abolish the Law — He Fulfilled It

Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets; I came not to destroy but to fulfil.” Matthew 5:17

To fulfil does not mean to cancel, it means to complete, to reveal, to walk out perfectly. Yeshua lived the Torah in human flesh, showing us how to keep it with pure motive and faith. He exposed man-made traditions that nullified the Law and restored the heart of obedience. If sin is the transgression of the Law (1 John 3:4), then without the Law there can be no sin. If there is no sin, there is no need for the blood of Messiah or a High Priest to intercede. Therefore, to say the Law is abolished is to dismantle the very purpose of redemption. The Law reveals sin; the blood of Yeshua cleanses it; the Spirit empowers us to overcome it.

3. The Law Rightly Divided — The Order and Application

Paul taught that the Law must be rightly divided, understood within its categories and contexts.

YAHUWAH’s Torah covers every area of life and creation:

Moral Law – Universal right and wrong; eternal and unchanging.

Law for Men – Headship, responsibility, and purity.

Law for Women – Modesty, cycles, and holiness in family life.

Law for the Land of Israel – Sabbatical years, gleaning, and stewardship.

Law for Feast Days – Appointed times of worship and remembrance.

Law for Finances – Tithing, generosity, and release of debts.

Law for the Levitical Priesthood – Sacrifices and temple service.

Law for Marriage – Covenants, faithfulness, and sanctity.

Law for Vows – Keeping one’s word before YAHUWAH.

Laws for Clothing – Distinction, purity, and symbolism of righteousness.

Some of these apply to all people, while others apply only to specific offices or times. This is why there is a High Priest, Yahushua Ha Mashiah, to intercede for our weaknesses as we grow in obedience. We are not saved by the Law but we are perfected through it, as we walk in covenant alignment.

4. The Spirit Empowers Obedience

Many say, “We cannot keep the Law perfectly.” But YAHUWAH never required perfection through flesh — He promised empowerment through His Spirit.

“I will put My Torah in their inward parts and write it upon their hearts; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.” — Jeremiah 31:33

“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall keep My judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:27

The Ruach ha Qodesh was given not to replace the Law but to internalise it. What was once written on stone is now written in our hearts. Through the Spirit, we obey out of love, not fear. The same Spirit that raised Yeshua from the dead now strengthens us to live by His commandments.

5. Paul’s Testimony — The Law Through Grace

Many twist the writings of Paul to justify disobedience, yet Paul himself testified:

“So then, the Torah is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.” Romans 7:12

He declared that the Law is spiritual (Romans 7:14), that it endures, and that faith establishes it (Romans 3:31). Paul kept the Sabbath, the Feasts, and even took a Nazarite vow (Acts 18:18). Never did he teach that the Torah was abolished. What he explained was that the law of sin and death, the death penalty of sin was abolished through Messiah’s sacrifice (Romans 8:2). Yeshua removed the condemnation, not the commandments. Through grace, the Torah is fulfilled in us as we walk by the Spirit. Grace is not the absence of Law, it is the power to keep it.

Conclusion

The Law of YAHUWAH is eternal, holy, and alive. It defines righteousness, exposes sin, and points to the need for Messiah. Through Yahushua Ha Mashiah, we are not freed from the Law, but from sin’s penalty, so that we may finally walk in truth and obedience. The Law is a lamp. The Commandment is light. The Spirit gives sight. Those who walk in it walk in covenant, now and forever.
