What is the Gospel?

The word “gospel” is a modern English term that does not carry the original meaning of the Messiah’s message. In modern Christianity, the “gospel” has been reduced to “believe and do nothing or anything” a passive faith without obedience. But the true message of Yeshua the Hebrew Messiah was never simply belief or trust; it was a call to repentance, faith, obedience, and hope in the coming Kingdom.

The Original Word: Sabartha

The Aramaic word Yeshua used for gospel is ܣܒܪܬܐ — Sabartha, which means hope. He often said Sabartha d’Malkutha, “The Hope of the Kingdom.” This expression captures the full essence of His mission: to restore the covenant people through faith and to bring the hope of eternal life to all who believe and obey.

“The Spirit of YHWH is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.” Isaiah 61:1 / Luke 4:18

Paul echoes this same word in Romans 8:24“For by hope (sabartha) we are saved.” He also confirms it in Ephesians 2:8, where faith and grace work together through obedience.

The Hebrew Root: Besorah

In Hebrew, the corresponding word is בְּשׂוֹרָה — Besorah, usually translated as “good news.” However, its deeper root basar (בָּשָׂר) means flesh. This reveals a profound mystery: the good news is the Word made flesh, Yeshua Himself who came to tabernacle among us.

“And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us.”  John 1:14

Thus, the Besorah and the Sabartha are one message, the Hope of Salvation made flesh in Yeshua, who came to redeem His people and all who would join them through covenant faithfulness.

The Message of Yeshua and the Apostles

Modern Christianity often separates Yeshua’s message to Israel from Paul’s message to the nations, claiming Paul preached a “different gospel.” But this is error.

Yeshua Himself said:

“This gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14

Paul did not create a new gospel he followed the same one:

“Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Messiah.” 1 Corinthians 11:1

“Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8

The true gospel, the Sabartha d’Malkutha is one message of hope, faith, obedience, and restoration.

The Hope of the Kingdom

Yeshua came to bring hope of life through His atonement, that we might have eternal fellowship with Him in the Kingdom. His message was not about lawlessness or religion it was about reconciliation, the return of the lost sheep, and the establishment of divine order.

“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”Matthew 4:17

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15

The gospel of Yeshua is therefore the hope of restoration the Kingdom of Elohim manifest through a people who walk in truth, keep the commandments, and live by faith.

Conclusion

The true gospel is not Greco-Roman, not Western, not religious, it is Hebrew, ancient, and eternal. It is the Sabartha d’Malkuthathe Hope of the Kingdom. It calls all nations to faith in Yeshua, repentance from sin, and obedience to the commandments of YHWH.

“For by hope we are saved… and if we hope for what we do not see, then we wait for it with patience.”
Romans 8:24–25

Yeshua came to restore hope, to gather His scattered people, and to open the way for all who would enter the Kingdom through faith and obedience. This is the eternal Besorah, the good news made flesh.
